A Celebration of Everything That’s Noble and Notable In The City of Biñan
Biñan City Mayor Marlyn “Len” Alonte-Naguiat’s brand of transformative leadership is key to the impressive growth of Biñan from a thriving municipality to that of a dynamic urban landscape known for its rich cultural heritage and surging success.
The twin annual bash that commemorate the cityhood anniversary every February 2 and the colorful “Puto-Latik Festival” with its weeks-long array of events spotlight the time-honored values of tradition and history as well as the challenges of a promising future.
Kicking off with a thanksgiving mass at the San Isidro de Labrador Parish Church last February 2, 2014, it was followed immediately by the opening of the Trade Fair that featured the export-quality products of Biñan. Other highlights were a fireworks display and a free concert.
Hundreds of young students from various public and private schools in the City of Biñan danced and pranced to the fierce beat of the traditional “Maglalatik”, a mock-war dance originally performed in the town of Loma and Zapote during Spanish times.
Other street performances were a Mardi Gras, a Dragon and Lion Dance & Wushu showdown, and an inter-school Streetdance face-off.
Capping the weeks-long celebration was the much-anticipated coronation night of the Miss Biñan 2014 beauty search with celebrity judges that included Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez, model-entrepreneur Patty Betita, designers Randy Ortiz, Bang Pineda, and Michael Leyva, PBA star Arwind Santos, Interior designer Ms. Jennifer De Dios. Popular “It’s Showtime” host, Vice Ganda, also made a special appearance during the event. The annual Miss Biñan features young and beautiful women from the city’s 24 barangays. It has has become the traditional highlight of this annual celebration of everything that’s noble and notable among the Biñanenses.
